Anil Joshi is a Gujarati language poet and essayist. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990 for his collection of essays Statue, published in 1988. In protest over the killing of the rationalist M M Kalburgi and others, Joshi returned his Sahitya Akademi Award i 2015.
The 2019 Lok Sabha elections bring to my mind the verses of Arab poet Al Masari: “Give your untruth to me. I will put it in the washing machine, clean it, fold it neatly and store it in my heart. It will then become truth.” Similarly, the verses of the Chinese poet Bei Dao spring up in my thoughts: “I am seeing a dream. The glass is all empty, yet I am drinking of it. Someone in the park, reading a newspaper…the lamps in the night school of corpses have turned into tea gone cold. The incline of memories roll up and reach the skies… my eyes are filled with the slush of tears. Now, people have started telling lies. When they come close to the difficult turn of meaning, they side with the gallows-men.” These words are of Bei Dao. The chair sits wearing the long coat of Goebbels.
2019ની લોકસભાની ચૂંટણી સમયે મને અરબસ્તાનની કવિયત્રી અલ મસરીની કાવ્યપંક્તિ યાદ આવે છે ” મને તમારું જૂઠ્ઠ ( અસત્ય ) આપી દો. તમારા એ જૂઠ્ઠને હું વોશિંગ મશીનમાં નાખી ને સાફ સૂતરું કરીને ઘડી વાળીને મારા હૃદયના કબાટમાં મૂકી દઈશ.એ પછી તે સત્ય થઇ જશે” તેમ જ ચીની કવિ બેઈ દાઓની કવિતા ફરી પાછી જીવતી થાય છે ‘હું સ્વપ્ન જોઈ રહ્યો છું. ગ્લાસ સાવ ખાલી છે છતાં શરાબ પી રહ્યો છું. પાર્કમાં કોઈ અખબાર વાંચે છે. મુર્દાઓની નાઇટ સ્કૂલોમાં સળગતી બત્તીઓ ઠંડી ચામાં પલટાઈ ગઈ છે. સ્મૃતિઓની ઢલાન ગબડતી ગબડતી રાતના આકાશ સુધી પહોંચે છે ત્યારે આંસુ કીચડ બની જાય છે. હવે લોકો ખોટું બોલવા લાગ્યા છે. અર્થનું જ્યારે કઠિન બિંદુ આવે છે ત્યારે તેઓ લપસીને જલ્લાદનો પક્ષ લેતા થઈ જાય છે.’ આ શબ્દો કવિ બેઈ દાઓના છે.ખુરશી નફરત અને ગોબેલ્સનો ઓવરકોટ પહેરીને બેઠી છે.
