The National Commission for Women, which is the apex body dealing with the issue of women’s empowerment in the country, has a statutory mandate to review legal and constitutional safeguards pertaining to women. Last month the Commission decided to conduct a consultation on “Review of Criminal law.” The objective of this consultation is to review and analyze the position of law; and formulate consolidated recommendations for viable amendments keeping in view the perspective and position of women in India. Read the full concept note here.

The following is a joint memorandum by womens’ organisation in response to the consultation initiated by the NCW. It addresses the ‘points of discussion’ raised by NCW which includes  section 498 A of IPC, marital rape, section 125 of CrPC and other matters concerning laws related women.
