Mythily Sivaraman, a veteran activist for labour and women’s rights, passed away on May 30 in Chennai. She was one of the founding members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). In this video, Sudha Sundararaman from AIDWA, who has travelled with Mythily for decades, narrates the unique personality of the late activist, how she came to be an activist, her intervention as part of AIDWA and the Left movement to criminalise violence against women and to work towards women empowerment. She also fiercely fought against casteism, sex-selective abortion, state-backed violence on tribals in Vachati, and state complicity in violence such as in the Keezhvenmani massacre case.
