In Part One of this series of interviews, writer, and teacher, Debaditya Bhattacharya, speaks to Souradeep Roy on education reforms in higher education in the wake of privatisation, saffronisation and liberalisation.

Recently, a video footage of two professors embroiled in a physical assault surfaced on social media. The video was from an annual orientation programme for teachers, held at JNU. Bhattacharya, here, discusses the orientation programme for teachers and narrates his version of the event which took an ugly turn.

Debaditya Bhattacharya teaches literature at Kazi Nazrul University, West Bengal. He has recently published two edited anthologies on higher education, The Idea of the University: Histories and Contexts (2018) and The University Unthought: Notes for a Future (2018).
