Not long before his untimely death on November 28, 2018, Dr Amit Sengupta was at the 4th Global People’s Health Assembly at Savar, Bangladesh, from November 16th to 19th. He was one of the main organisers. This video of the closing plenary of the Assembly sums up the work of a lifetime guided by deep political commitment. The delegates give him a standing ovation; they whistle, chant “Amit, Amit”. The air fills with cries of Lal Salaam. Amit’s response is eloquent: he does not refer to himself at all. Instead, he raises his arm and his voice rings out: Awaaz Do. The delegates reply: Hum Ek Hain. Our friend and comrade, Amit Sengupta: we will remember your call for unity, and for a better world.
