In our latest interview for the series Writers Talk Politics, Souradeep Roy talks to Easterine Kire, a novelist, poet, translator from Nagaland. They discuss her novel, Son of the Thundercloud which has won the Best Book (Fiction) award at the 2017 Tata Literature Live festival. Her latest novel is Don’t Run, My Love, brought out by Speaking Tiger Books. Kire explains that the situation for writers in India are quite grim, but storytellers who get killed will always be replaced by others who will come to tell the tale. She also thinks that writers from Nagaland, or the ‘North East’ should write outside the box. “We are so tired of writing from inside the box”, she says. Hear more from her here:
