Veteran historian Romila Thapar, speaking at a public discussion titled 'Dissent and Democracy', condemned the arrests of activists that followed the Bhima Koregaon Violence. She opined that we have moved away from the values that led us to independence, and we have forgotten why we fought to become a free nation. Thapar also feels that the nature of the arrests points to the suppression of dissent.
