In an exclusive interview with Newsclick, poet and literary critic, Hiren Gohain, speaks about the contradictory politics of BJP in Assam. While the NRC has been a long-standing demand among Assamese citizens, he says that the Citizenship Amendment Bill is in contradiction with the Assam Accord of 1985. Gohain says the promise of equal rights and justice, as enshrined in the Constitution, "sticks in the gizzards of some people", who want to normalise injustice.
