Thousands of protestors gathered on the 90ft road in Mumbai’s Dharavi to protest against the unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Sunday, December 22, 2019.
Reports say that more than 25,000 locals (unofficial numbers are reported to be around 50,000) took to the streets to agitate against the CAA and the all-India proposed NRC. From 2 PM to 5:45 PM, the crowd came together under the leadership of the “Dharavi Rehvasi Sangh” and the protest proceeded without any untoward incidents with the cooperation of the Mumbai Police.

The protest in Dharavi was the second largest one after the one at the August Kranti Maidan that took place in Mumbai on December 19, 2019.
Nationwide protests against the CAA and NRC are going ahead full steam. Police brutality, violence and unlawful detentions have been reported from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governed states. It has come to everyone’s notice that protests in non-BJP ruled states like Maharashtra have gone smoothly without any unfortunate incidents.
The protests against the CAA / NRC that began in Assam, spread to Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMIU) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) where students became flag-bearers of the movement and were subject to unanticipated violence and police abuse. This uncalled for action against students gave further momentum to the agitation and it is now that the BJP has started to feel baffled at the unexpected numbers calling out their Hindu supremacist divisive policies.
