Narayan Surve was a poet of the masses. He wrote of the everyday, ordinary people and their immense potential for resistance, with remarkable simplicity and humour.
This week for Bol, we present Surve’s iconic poem “Karl Marx”, rendered by eminent immunologist Dr. Satyajit Rath.
Surve writes about encountering Marx in his life:
The other day he was standing listening to my speech in the meeting at the factory gate
I said –
‘Now it is we who are history’s heroes
And of all the lives to come, too.’
It was he who clapped the loudest.
