Renowned playwright, actor and activist Girish Karnad passed away on June 10 at the age of 81. Five organisations came together to pay a tribute to him on June 17. The programme was organised by India International Centre, SAHMAT, Raza Foundation, Indian Writers Forum, and Jana Natya Manch. Ashok Vajpeyi, TM Krishna, MK Raina, Anuradha Kapur and K Satchidanandan spoke about Karnad’s life and his way of cultural resistance. Parts of his plays Tughlaq, Hayavadana, and The Dreams of Tipu were read out in both Hindi and English. TM Krishna sang verses by Basava to pay tribute to Karnad. The programme was chaired by Githa Hariharan.
