In this latest interview for our series Writers Talk Politics, Souradeep Roy talks to Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar, the writer and doctor, whose work includes a novel, The Mysterious Ailment of Rupi Baskey, and a collection of short stories, The Adivasi Will Not Dance. The Jharkhand government banned the latter book, calling it obscene. Shekhar, also a doctor, was also suspended from his job as a government medical official. In this interview, Shekhar talks of the statusof the ban and his discomfort with labels, but also, and more importantly, how the stories in the book came into being.
