They were booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The UAPA has proven to be a deeply regressive legislation that has, and will continue to be used, to promulgate the police abuse of civil rights of Indian citizens. According to Gautam Navlakha, the arrest of Prof. Saibaba just on the basis of his ideology is a ban on ideas and is thought policing.
