Tamil author Perumal Murugan was recently awarded the ILF ‘Samnvay Bhasha Samman’ on 28 November 2015, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, for his novel, Madhorubhagan. The jury, headed by K. Satchidanandan, decided to honour Perumal Murugan’s dauntless writing and his contribution to the literary tradition in Tamil. A.R. Venkatachalapathy and K. Satchidanandan saluted Murugan’s spirit, defiant even in his self-imposed exile, and voiced their hope that Murugan will emerge out of his ‘death’ as an author.
