In a special report, journalist Bhasha Singh spoke to women leaders who had rallied together at a national convention organised to mark one year of the Hathras rape incident. One year ago, in Hathras village in Uttar Pradesh, a Dalit woman was gang raped. Eleven days later, she died. UP police cremated the woman’s body without the consent of her parents, and attempted to suppress all opposition and protests that broke out against the incident. Journalist Siddique Kappan was arrested while on the way to report on the case, and he remains in prison till today.
