“NRC is against the nation”

Romila Thapar, noted historian, talks about sedition law and why we should have gotten rid of it immediately after Independence. She raises the question of why the Indian judicial system takes a long time to arrive at verdicts on cases such as the CAA and incidents of rape. Recent reports have indicated that the government has missed the deadline for finalising rules for the CAA.

Romila Thapar fears that NRC will not only change the demography of India but severely affect its economy. She further emphasizes that laws like NRC are against the civilization of any Nation. She also talks about the importance of protests and dialogue such as the cases of Shaheen Bagh and the JNU protests.
