MAY DAY 2020 – Workers Under Lockdown in #Bhiwandi

It is International Workers' Day today, and India's workers continue to suffer the brutal consequences of a #lockdown without a plan. In Bhiwandi, 20 km away from Mumbai, the powerloom industry has shut down abruptly, leaving lakhs of migrant labour with no income, food or even a place to sleep. Even after years of working in Bhiwandi, most migrant workers have documents and ration cards registered in their native addresses, leaving them dependent on the charity of others.
