Freedom of expression has been centre-stage since the BJP government came to power in 2014. Writers, students, academics; citizens who voice their opinions against the government; media houses and journalists: all who raise questions have been targeted. The latest attack was the raid on NDTV offices and on its Chief Prannoy Roy’s residence.
Press Club on India brought together senior journalists and eminent citizens, including Rajdeep Sardesai, H K Dua, Arun Poorie, Kuldeep Nayar, Raj Chengappa, Arun Shourie and Fali Nariman. Senior jurist Fali Nariman addressed the gathering, saying the raids conducted on NDTV and its Chief was unconstitutional.
